It’s time for The Teen Mag Time Machine’s very first community Q&A!
When I was an editor at CosmoGIRL! in the early 2000s, reader mail was at the center of all the magazines. And trust me, if you ever doubted it, your voices were heard. If we got one fact wrong about a favorite celeb (down to something like their favorite color) we heard about it, apologized personally (to the celeb and fan) and corrected it. If there was a star that we weren’t giving enough love to, causing readers to write in and ask why we were ignoring such talent? We always gave those stars a second look and featured them soon after.
But let’s not forget that in the early aughts, teen magazines were one of the only ways fans could connect to their favorite celebs. There was no social media or AMAs or Cameos. We barely had a web site to support the print mag. So when we announced we had a special interview coming up and wanted readers to write in with their burning questions? Our SNAIL mail would overflow!
It’s why I’m taking things back to basics. I’ve been in touch with the boys of BBMAK and will be sitting down with none other than Mark Barry, Christian Burns, and Ste McNally next week. They’ve given me their blessing to open the floor to you for part of the chat! It’s this type of throwback experience that I envisioned while plotting out the launch The Teen Mag Time Machine and I’m psyched!
The Boys Who Brought Harmony Back
BBMAK was a special part of the early aughts/TRL pop scene. Yes, boy bands and pop vixens were on top of the game but BBMAK was different. They didn’t just sing; they wrote their own tracks, played their own instruments, and delivered those unmistakable three-part acoustic harmonies. It’s what made them stand out then and now.
From their smash breakout hit “Back Here” to classics like “Ghost of You and Me” and “Out of My Heart,” their music is still on the playlist of anyone who was growing up during the turn of the millennium.
Where They Are Now
After a long hiatus, the guys officially reunited. They released their album Powerstation in 2019 and haven’t looked back. They’ve been touring continuously, sharing the stage alongside fellow Y2K favorites (O-Town, LFO and more) on the Pop 2000 Tour, headlining intimate venue shows, and proving that their vocals (and bond) are stronger than ever.
